My son won't poop

Yes you read that correctly. OK so he's pooping but not like he was last week. In the past few weeks he's been having regular BM's at least 5-6 times a day. Two days ago he just sort of stopped. He has only had 3 or 4 good ones, that's only 2 a day. That is SOOO not enough! I think I will call the doctor tomorrow and just check but he's not acting like anything is wrong. He has to be constipated though.
This is such a weird subject but most of you are moms so I thought I would just see what you think?
Now let me give you a few details. He's eating normal, he's peeing clear every time he eats and sometimes more, he's a little grunty from time to time as if he has gas, but lately he's been using his voice allot more and the grunts are sort of his thing. I think he just does that and its not because he's trying to poop or anything. I could be wrong though. We are still feeding him breast milk every feeding and at night we do 1-2oz of formula every feeding. I have no idea why he won't go. But I know he used to go regularly so I'm just a little concerned about the complete lack of doodoo!

Anyone else experience this with there little ones?

By the way our little tiny man is 3 weeks today! I can't believe he's only a week away from being 4 weeks old.

He is precious!!!!
I would think he is fine, my babies never pooped that much in a day and there were many times where they would skip a few days with a BM....of course i never breast fed so i don't know if its different, but if he is going every day then it sounds normal to me.

If he was born Sept 16th, then i would consider Oct 16th to be 1 month and then on the 16th of every month after that is when i would change the month.
Like my boys were born Nov 12th and they will be 11 months on the 12th and 1 yrs old on the 12th of next month.

When they are as little as him, i always just counted the weeks till they turned 3 months old and then after that i would just say "they are 3 months old, etc"

Happy 3 weeks Coop! I consider his birth date to be a month. :)
Also, let me know if you ever have any questions about a pooping child. Chase has had pooping problems since he was about 3 months old. I have been through it all. The worst...which I hope never happens to you...is that they hold it for days and then scream when they poop.
I would just say keep an eye on it, but babies systems change and how much they eat can alter how much they poop. It could be many different things, but as long as he doesn't seem uncomfortable, I wouldn't worry. It is when he gets squirmy, fussy, and pooping different, that you should bring him in. :)

When Alex came home she would not poop. I had to try everything from sticking a thermometer in her butt to my fingers. Once I stuck my finger in there ( yes it sucked ) it was like an entirely new baby!!!!

Now that she is bigger we have had to buy things to put up there that help her poop but it is not very often at all. I would say if he is pooping daily that he should be fine!!!

Hope you figure things out!

Hey girl!

So I breasfed Brody from the beginning and he went through a stage like that and my DR said that it is normal for breastfed babies to oly poop once a week.... so I didn't worry too much unless I could tell he was in pain or constipated and he never got to that. You may want to ask just ot make sure but I would say as long as he is acting okay he is probabaly fine!

I got confused with the while b-day thing at first too... and once he got to like 2 months I just went by monthly on the 5th.. confusing I know..

He looks sooo precious!!! I miss Brody being that tiny! You just wait.. he will be filling out that car seat right before your eyes!!!

What a precious little baby!!! I wish my little man was still so small. He has those same monkey pj's in 12 months, and I just put them in the "does not fit" pile after washing them one last time this week :(

About the poop... Pooping 5-6 times a day is what would have had me worried. Pooping 1-2 times a day seems totally normal. Maybe he was just an over-achiever at first :) I truly wouldn't worry until he stops going at all.

The birth date thing is as confusing as the pregnancy thing. The weeks and days of the month just don't add up. If you count every four weeks as a month being pregnant then your pregnant for like ten months! I go with what all the girls said about... stick to the weeks for the first couples months and then just tell people once that date has actually passed. Every week is so precious at the beginning! Enjoy it!

I had the same issue with my Hailey...they said that sometimes happens with babies that are primarily breastfed and not to worry. They said that sometimes they go for 7-10 days! I can't imagine...call the pedi to make sure, but I think you're okay.

We had the same "problem" with Jackson. I thought for sure he was all plugged up and was SO worried. My pediatrician told me that breastfed babies can go as little as once a week. He also told me that you won't have to wonder if he's constipated, you'll know.

I counted Jackson's age in weeks until he turned 3 months... time flies by now!

exact same thing she was a great pooper now she has little peanut size harder poops she doesn't seem bothered but still...the dr told us ( which I'm not saying to do just what we were told) to put a little more water in her formula until she clears out a bit!

but seems like its pretty common just want you to know your not alone in the poop stories :)

Ok, he's fine!! Our girls had the same problem and I totally freaked out. Claire went 3 days once without pooping. As they get older they start too not poop as often. I found that once we added a little formula, 1 oz after nursing, she started too poop less and it wasn't quite so yellow and seedy. Breast feed babies apparently don't poop as much, yet another plus for the booby juice!! Our doctor said as long as it's not hard pebbles (which is constipation) or odd colors like black or red (for blood) then we are fine.

So you count by the date so on Oct. 16 he will be 1 month!! If you did it by weeks he would be 1 year old 4 weeks before his birthday! As far as the poop goes that is normal. You would definitely know if he is constipated. Like if he is pushing hard or he has firm poop or little pellets!! But I would call the Doc just for your peace of mind!! Cooper is just precious!!!

Ya know.. I have a "for real" constipated baby. I know this because the only time I hear my baby cry is when he tries to poopy. I feel like such a bad mom since there isn't anything I can do. Kyah is formula fed (with everything that happened in the hospital I am not able to breast feed) and I think that is what has constipated him. All of the Iron in the formula. The Dr. suggested Miralax. 2 tsp every 3-4 days. It just softens the stools and so far we are going good. I can't wait until he gets on solids so that I can choose foods with Higher fiber so that I don't have to give my baby miralax. But yes.. call your Dr. if you are concerned. You know your baby best.

Try not to worry. Their poop changes SOOOO much over the course of the first few months. And breastfeed babies rarely get constipated. And, actualy, not pooping is not a sign of constipation. As long as the poops are still soft and that mustardly yellow color you're probably fine!

Too funny! I was just having this conversation with one of my friends with a newborn. I think the thing to do is to get a copy of Baby 411 TODAY. It is extremely helpful for these questions. I have also heard that breast fed babies can go up to a week without a BM. Reason being--they work you up to the amount of milk they need, so there should not be a whole lot of waste. Another idea is to get a baby scale. If he is not screaming his head off and is gaining weight (only weigh him every three days MAX and always at the same time), he's fine no matter what he's doing in his diapers!!

Sometimes it's just what you eat if you are breastfeeding-that always affected my kids...so maybe if you drink prune juice-that might help him-sounds weird doesn't it-but it worked for me! :)
