I felt like one of those overly worried pregnant women in the movies!!

Well this week has been an interesting one to say the least.
I should start this by saying that I Monday night on my way home from work I mentioned to my mom on the phone that I had just had two Braxton Hicks contractions in a row. Not normal for me, atleast not lately. I sort of ignored this and went on with my night. By about 7:15 I really noticed that I was still having them, but even more often instead of one every two hours or so I was having one every 10-20 minutes.
No pain as you know if you've had them yourself it was just the tightening of my uterus. But it wasn't even always the entire uterus. Sometimes it was the whole bottom half, sometimes the whole top half.
Needless to say from 7:30-8:50ish they became more frequent and by about 9:15 I was starting to get worried because I was having this happen almost every 3-5 minutes for 30 second intervals. I called my mom and good friend to ask what to do?? Mom tells me to drink water which I did because she said that it could just be dehydration. I drank a whole bottle of water and then called my doc.
This was about 9:30. The doctor on call called me back and asked a bunch of questions. I assured him I felt just fine, completely normal actually aside from the constant tightening. I didn't want to blow it out of proportion. He asked more questions about how often and exactly what it felt like. He then says "I'm sure its nothing, It could be that your very dehydrated, it could be nothing. I would take it easy and drink a little bit more water and see if that helps and if it doesn't than I want you to head up to labor and delivery at the hospital". So I say to him "So drink some water, wait for how long before I head to the hospital?" He was like "well I think you should get ready to go right now and drink the water and just go ahead and head up there now". I was like "WHAT" what the heck happened to drink some water and see if it helps???
Needless to say we went to the hospital, were there for 3 to 3-1/2 hours and they were just about to let us go because the bh's had slowed down to nearly nothing. I was hardly having them. Must have been the water that helped. They said the baby was fine. They decide to take a urine sample just in case right before we leave. One hour later they come back to tell me I have a UTI. Great. That's lovely. I know its really common in pregnancy but I was like "how did I get that"? The nurse assured me its common but we were confused because I was having no symptoms aside from the bh's. Which they said were happening because of the infection. They sent me home and gave me meds. I'm so glad everything is fine with the baby. The bad thing is had they not caught it, the infection if left too long they said could force you into early labor, so I'm very glad that didn't happen.
Also Its weird I didn't have any symptoms, then yesterday and today I'm misserable. I'm on antibiotics so I just hope it goes away quickly. It hurts in my lower stomach now, I'm going to the bathroom every 20 minutes and nothing comes out but it feels like I need to go so bad and it burns. I just think its strange this just started happening. Sorry if that was tmi!
Today I was worried because I keep thinking the meds will clear this up. But still no change, it seems to be getting worse.
Have any of you ever had one of these while pregnant?

Ugh! UTIs are the worst. Drink lots and lots of water, cranberry juice, and be sure to eat yoghurt with probiotics in it! That's always been a good combo for me (but I've never been pregnant -- I'm just speaking from non-pregnancy UTI experience) :-)

Unfortunately for you (fortunately for me!) I have no experience with UTIs during pregnancy so I am absolutely no help! I sure am glad that you ended up going to L&D to get checked out since you did end up having an active infection.

I hope that you will soon feel some relief from the antibiotics...I'm sure your OB's office could let you know how long it should take for the antibiotics to kick in and allow you to start feeling better.

OH I am SOOOO sorry! I had this also! I had a severe UTI for about 2 weeks. It got so bad I had to get 2 antiboiotic shots in my bum plus oral antibiotics. I was acutually put on the wrong antibiotics at first which only made it worst. I was on them for about 3 weeks. If it doesn't get better by tonight I would call your Dr. It sounds like you need a culture done to see what kind of UTI you have and see if its resistent to the anti you are on. It was so bad that I was on the floor crying. My Dr.s said they had never seen one so bad as mine they almost had to hospitalize me. So I would def call the Dr. if it doesn't get better! I sure hope it does! :-)

I am so glad that everything is ok - except for the yucky UTI! I can understand though freaking out about every little thing - I am the same way!

I did not have that issue while I was prego! I am glad things are ok though and I am glad you went into the dr.

I have had a UTI and I didn't go into the Dr. for it and it went to my kidneys and I got a kidney infection! So good thing you are on meds!!

I am glad that they were able to find the infection before it got too bad. Sometimes you do have to be hospitalized if it too advanced but luckily you did what you were supposed to and called your DR and were able to receive the treatment you needed. I have not gone through this in pregnancy but hopefully you should be feeling better soon. Just listen to your body and if something doesn't feel quite right...let someone know. It's better safe than sorry. Get some rest too, it will do a body good!

I think is is worth staying ontop of your Doctor if things dont start to feel any better or even worse. Just incase they need to switch the meds or something. No I never had UTI, but hang in there! We are praying for you to feel better.

Ugh I get them once or twice a year, but not since I've been pregnant -knock on wood! Start downing cranberry juice and azo with the anti-biotics. Hopefully it won't be much longer!

UTI's are terrible! I had one when I was pregnant. I didn't have any symptoms at all, but I started vomiting non-stop (I thought it was the flu!) so my doc told me to go to the ER b/c I was probably dehydrated. I had to get an IV w/ fluids and then they told me I had a UTI! So strange!
ps so glad I found your blog, love it!

Oh my goodness. If it doesn't get better soon definitely give the doc another call. Drink lots and lots of cranberry juice. Keep us posted, I hope this is your only trip to labor and delivery until your baby's ready and full term.

I'm so glad they found out what was wrong! UTI's do come on very quickly. Sounds like it was pretty early if you just now started with the classic symptoms.

Hey!
I stumbled upon your blog not exactly sure how now... but just wanted to comment! I was an overly worried pregnant woman so don't worry I think it's natural. I went to the ER triage 3 times for false labor..haha I just had to have peace of mind!!

Goodluck!!
